An Overview of Nepal Rastra Bank

INTRODUCTION
A bank is a financial institution which provides banking as well as other financial services to heir customers. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the Central Bank, was
 stablished in 2013 B.S. as a result of enormous regulation of financial and monetary system. NRB was established under the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 1995. As the central bank of Nepal, it regulates and supervises all the monetary transactions of commercial banks, financial institutions and other financial organizations. NRB has significant role in increasing both the number and activities of financial institutions in Nepal. It encourages and supports during the entry and growth period of financial
institutions.
NRB also supervises foreign exchange rates and country’s foreign exchange reserves. It deals with 21 currencies in total. It has been an active member of Asian Clearing Union. NRB has its head office in Baluwatar, Kathmandu with seven district offices in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Pokhara, Siddhrthanagar, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi.

Vision: "A modern, dynamic, credible, and effective Central Bank."
Mission: "Maintaining macro-economic stability through sound and effective monetary, foreign
exchange, and financial sector policies".
Objectives: To formulate necessary monetary and foreign exchange policies in order to maintain
price and balance of payments, stability for sustainable development of the economy and
managing it. NRB also focuses to promote financial stability and ensure adequate liquidity in the
banking and financial system;
Goals: Develop long-term vision of the Bank and implement it through medium-term and annual
strategic plans; Formulate and implement sound and effective monetary, foreign exchange, and
financial sector policies to make financial system healthy and stable.
