What happens if the second dose of Covishield vaccine is delayed ?

Kathmandu, The appropriate time to take the second dose of Covishield vaccine is 6 to 8 weeks after the first vaccination. But according to the Ministry of Health and Population, there are more than 1.3 million people waiting for the second vaccination in Nepal.

Health officials and experts say there is no need to panic even if the time for the second dose of vaccine is delayed. However, they have suggested that public health standards must be adhered to within the time limit for vaccination.

Even if the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a second dose of the vaccine within 8 to 12 weeks, there is no need to be alarmed by the delay. Shyamraj Upreti explains.

He suggested that caution should be exercised as there is a possibility of infection as the resistance to vaccination decreases after 12 weeks.

According to scientific research, the second dose should be given within 8 to 12 weeks.
