The biggest bank scam in the history of India

Kathmandu. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against ABG Shipyard Limited and its former CMD Rishi Kamlesh Agrawal and then directors Santhanam Muthuswamy and Ashwini Kumar in a Rs 22,842 crore bank scam. If such a huge amount of irregularities is proved, it will be the biggest banking scam in the history of India.

Earlier, Nirav Modi had embezzled around Rs 13,000 crore from Punjab National Bank. At that time, it was called the biggest banking scam in the history of India. State Bank of India (SBI) has said that ABG Shipyard's account is in the process of liquidation as per NCLT procedure.

SBI had first filed a complaint against the company in November 2019 in a bank scam case. Then another complaint was lodged in December 2020. The bank said there was no delay in registering the complaint. According to SBI, the company was given loans by a consortium of two dozen banks, but due to poor performance, the company's account became NPAs from November 2013. Many attempts were made to uplift the company but to no avail.
