Historical political support to Prachanda for Prime Minister of Nepal

Kathmandu. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has received a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives with overwhelming support. Prime Minister Prachanda got 268 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives. There were only two votes against the Prime Minister from two small parties.

It is the second historic support of the House for 'Prachanda'. Earlier, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari on behalf of CPN (UML) got 100 percent of the votes present in the House. Adhikari got 198 votes in the voting held in the House of Representatives on 7 January 2051. In the then 205-member House of Representatives, the officer got the votes of all the members present at the polls. It is mentioned in the parliamentary details booklet published by the House of Representatives that six members were absent during the voting, apart from the Speaker.

After the political period of 2051, no prime minister has received this historic vote. After 28 years, Prime Minister Prachanda got the votes of all but two people present in the House. Apart from his own party CPN (Maoist Centre), the largest party in the House including Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Rashtriya Swatantra Party, Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), Janmaat Party, Civil Liberation Party, Democratic Socialist The party has given a vote of confidence. Similarly, independent MPs of the House of Representatives, Amresh Kumar Singh, Yogendra Mandal, Lalveer Chaudhary and Prabhu Shah have also given their vote of confidence to Prime Minister Prachanda.

The House of Representatives has 89 members from the Congress, 79 from the UML, 32 from the Maoist Center, 20 from the National Independent Party, 14 from the RPP, 12 from the Jaspa, 10 from the United Socialist Party, six from the Janamat, four from the LoSpa and three from the Civil Immunity. Out of which all members of parties other than Congress were present. Prem Suwal of Nepal Labor Farmers Party and Chitra Bahadur KC of Rashtriya Jan Morcha voted against. Congress, United Socialists and Civil Immunity have announced from the parliament that they will not join the government despite giving a vote of confidence in support of the Prime Minister. Even before some small parties voted in favor during the election of the Prime Minister from the Parliament but did not participate in the government.

Three members of Nepali Congress were absent during the voting. Ambika Basnet, Kishore Singh Rathore and Manorama Sherchan were absent from the voting. Tek Bahadur Gurung of the Congress does not have the right to vote due to his suspension in the corruption case. The senior members in the role of Speaker cannot exercise voting rights.
