50 Million of accounts in commercial banks of Nepal and more than 1.8 million loan Accounts

Kathmandu. The number of deposit accounts opened in banks and financial institutions has exceeded 50 million. This is more than 20 million 948 thousand than the total population of Nepal. This does not mean that banks have reached the reach of all Nepalis. A person can open an account in more than one bank and financial institution. Therefore, since the same person has opened more than one account in different banks, the number of deposit accounts is more than the total population.

According to the National Census 2078, the total population of Nepal is 291 million 64 thousand 578. According to Rashtra Bank, a total of 51 lakh 13 thousand 498 deposit accounts have been opened in A, B and C financial institutions till April. During the same period, the loan account is 18 lakh 42 thousand 930.

On the other hand, the survey-report on the state of financial literacy and the state of financial inclusion at the state and district level showed that 71.83 percent of the adult population depended on moneylenders, family and friends for financial activities.
