Kathmandu. Patan High Court has given 6 days time for further investigation on the six customs employees and agents who were arrested in the gold smuggling case of around 100 kg.
Navraj Adhikari, Information Officer of the Revenue Investigation Department, informed that the investigation has been started with a six-day deadline from the Patan High Court to investigate the arrested customs officer Santosh Chand, inspector Kumar Dhakal, X-ray operator Saroj Shrestha and customs agents Sudarshan Gautam, Rukmena Subba and Yadav Parajuli. They were arrested by the department today.
Earlier, on the same day as the gold was recovered, six people who were arrested last Wednesday were investigated for 10 days, and four people who were arrested the next day were given an extension of nine days. The owners of the cargo company, Rajan Shrestha, Krishna Shrestha and Pushkarraj Bhatt, along with Chinese citizen Zeyung Lin, are among those who have been extended nine days.
The taxi driver Ashok Ranamgar, customs agent Rajendra Kumar Rai, Dilip Bhujel, owner of the gold importing company Ready Trade Pvt. Ltd., associates Harkaraj Rai, Thukpin Chhiring and Ramkumar Bhujel are among those who are under investigation with a deadline of 10 days.
In the operation conducted at Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday 3rd of July, the department seized around 100 kg of gold from the front of the customs office when they were about to pass the customs of the airport and take it to a taxi. The gold brought from Hong Kong has been sent to Taksar branch of Nepal Rastra Bank for testing and weighing.
