Kathmandu. The number of printing of new notes will be reduced during Dashain. It is said that the National Bank is preparing not to send a large number of new notes to the market as in previous years. National Bank's priority is to reduce cash transactions and increase digital transactions in the financial sector.
Dr. Dilliram Pokharel, co-spokesperson of Rashtra Bank, said that with the increase in digital transactions in recent times, the number of new notes is also ready to be sent to the market. He said that till now the number of new notes for Dashain has not been decided as to how many will be sent to the market and when they will be distributed.
Last year, around 56 billion rupees worth of new notes were minted during Dashain, Tihar and other festivals. However, this time, he said, new notes of that size will not be sent to the market. According to him, although the number of new notes is less than sent to the market, they are ready to give 18 and a half thousand rupees per person.
He said that the work is being done to extract the data about the number of new notes in the note fund of the Rashtra Bank in remote places and other places. He said that the National Bank will decide to send new notes to the market for Dashain only after the data is available.
He said that they are ready to distribute 18,500 rupees per person this year. He says that the total amount may decrease as digital transactions have increased. The National Bank will provide new notes of Rs 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 rupees per person. Last year, since Dashain came early, banks and financial institutions provided new currency note facility from 29th of August.
