Kathmandu: There are many differences of opinion on the issue of separating bankers and entrepreneurs. In particular, entrepreneurs and bankers have been arguing that it should not be separated, while the regulatory body Nepal Rastra Bank has been trying to separate it.
There has been an effort to separate bankers and entrepreneurs for a long time. It has been years since a bill was drafted to amend the Banks and Financial Institutions Act, 2073 (BAFIA) to separate bankers and entrepreneurs. Due to various types of disputes and obstacles, it has not been completed yet. With the arrival of Rastra Bank Governor Bishwanath Poudel, this issue has been discussed again.
He has said that it is necessary to separate bankers and entrepreneurs. Poudel argues that if bankers and entrepreneurs are separated, the structure will change like an earthquake in the financial system. In a discussion in the Finance Committee, Governor Poudel said that since the provision in the bill determines our economic future, some policy provisions have been proposed in the bill to change the main economy, the structure of credit, and the structure of banks.
Meanwhile, industrialists and businessmen have been opposing it. Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, has been saying that the policy of separating bankers and businessmen will slow down economic activity. He argues that such a policy will have a huge impact when we are talking about creating jobs, increasing revenue, and increasing business activities.
While there is talk of separating bankers and businessmen through Bafia, Santosh Koirala, President of the Bankers Association, has objected to the provision of 51 percent founder share ownership. ‘On the one hand, there is a provision to separate bankers and businessmen, and on the other hand, there is a provision to keep the founder share at 51 percent,’ he said, ‘This provision should be removed through Bafia.’ Koirala is demanding that the founders and the general public should have the same share.
