Kathmandu. Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Maha Prasad Adhikari has expressed the view that 'digital common currency' should be introduced in SAARC countries.
The proposal was made by Governor Adhikari, who attended the 40th SAARC Finance Virtual Group Meeting for 2020 on Wednesday.
"The time has come to study at the SAARC finance level to bring digital common currency into circulation," the official said.
The meeting was attended by SAARC Central Bank Governors, Deputy Governors and others.
Virtual currency has gained legitimacy in many countries of the world. However, such currency is banned in Nepal. Whitcoin is the most popular virtual currency in the world.
In the same way that European countries have introduced the euro as a common currency, the SAARC nations should also introduce a virtual common currency, said the governor.
In the meeting, he said that e-commerce has increased significantly due to COVID-19 and it will also increase financial access.
