11.91 million mobile banking users in Nepal

Kathmandu. Mobile banking business has increased significantly in Nepal recently. The number of mobile banking users has increased by 2.8 million in a year. The NRB has informed that the number of mobile banking users has increased significantly due to the increasing risk of Kovid-19, obstruction in easy movement due to lockdown, free electronic banking by banks.

According to the NRB, the number of mobile banking users has increased from 9,099,732 to 11,912,813 till last December. Along with the number of mobile banking transactions, the transaction amount has also increased significantly during the lockdown period.

A total of Rs 18.71 billion has been transacted through mobile banking till last May. Such amount was Rs 5.64 billion last April. In the lockdown, banks and financial institutions conducted interbank ATM transactions, Nepal Clearing House conducted Connect IPS, and NRB conducted RTGS transactions free of cost. The monthly report of NRB has shown that the transactions through RTGS, ECC, Connect IPS, e-commerce, POS, wallet and QR code have also increased during the lockdown.
