Such transactions have increased as banks have given priority to mobile banking transactions. NRB has increased the mobile banking business from an average of 4 million by the fiscal year 2075/76 to about 15 million. The number of mobile banking and internet banking users has increased in the month of December released by the National Bank of Nepal. So far, banks and financial institutions have issued 83.18 million debit cards and 176,000 credit cards. Mobile banking was first introduced in Nepal in 2005 by Standard Chartered Bank.
Then in 2009, Laxmi Bank launched Mobile Money in Nepal. With its launch, account information, transaction information, money transfer from one's account to another account, mobile recharge can be done through SMS. In 2014, Global IME Bank launched mobile smart banking for the first time. . Global Bank was the first to abandon the SSS system and launch Internet-based smart banking. Its popularity has also been increasing during this period of 15 years.
