Kathmandu. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has released a study report on the impact of COVID-19 on the loss of most industries and businesses. According to a study conducted by the ministry, 67.56 percent of industries and businesses are at a loss. Only 16.22 percent of the industries participating in the study have made a profit. Of the for-profit industries, 66.67 percent are large scale industries.

A study by the ministry found that 10.81 percent of businesses were completely shut down due to the effects of COVID-19.

Although the NRB presented the data on the basis of the study done by the NRB in the mid-term review of the budget till November, the Ministry of Industry has made the data public the next day by conducting a study of 37 industries operating in the country. A study by the ministry found that no industry was fully operational during and after the government's crackdown on cobwebs.

Of the industries and businesses selected for the study, 10.81 percent have been completely closed and 89.19 percent have been partially operational. Of the industries that have been completely shut down, 75 percent of the small and cottage industries have been completely shut down.

Industry production capacity has declined significantly by 4.3 percent. Of the industries surveyed, 54 per cent saw a 50 per cent decline in production, 32.43 per cent saw a decline in capacity and 75 per cent saw a decline in small and cottage industries.

The study report showed that industrial turnover declined by 73 percent during the period. As a result of the Corona shutdown, industrial production fell by 73.8 percent in 96.7 percent of industries. The study report states that 22.5 percent workers have lost their jobs. There are more small, cottage and small scale industries in the labor-cutting industries. During this period, there have been problems such as lack of operating expenses, difficulty in selling and distributing products, and lack of market demand.

Of the small and cottage industries surveyed, 82.35 percent said their production was affected by the Kovid-19 epidemic. 76. Percent of small and cottage industries have responded that it is difficult to get raw materials and also affects labor mobilization. Seventy-five percent of small enterprises reported finding it difficult to obtain the raw materials needed for the industry. 87.5 percent of the industries have affected the mobilization of workers and marketing of products.

Of the medium-sized industries surveyed, 50 percent reported problems with raw materials, 75 percent with labor mobilization, and problems with industry production and marketing. In the case of large scale industries, raw material procurement, production of goods and services, labor mobilization and marketing have been affected.

The ministry surveyed a total of 37 small and medium enterprises, eight small scale industries, four medium scale industries and eight large scale industries. The study has been supported by the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Federation of Nepalese Small and Household Industries, Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Women Entrepreneurs.
