Kathmandu. It has become possible to deposit money in the Employees Provident Fund online. The fund has made arrangements for the employees under the federal and state governments to deposit money through electronic government accounting system (CGAS).
The service was jointly launched by Comptroller and Auditor General Madhu Kumar Marasini and Employees Provident Fund Chairman and Revenue Secretary Ram Sharan Pudasaini. Comptroller and Auditor General Madhusudan Marasini said that 272,000 employees have been relieved with the introduction of online payments. He also expressed confidence that the details of the employees of more than 5,000 federal and state offices would be easily available to the Accountant General in time. Marasini informed that this service will be extended to the employees of Palika level within a year.
Chairman of the fund Pundasaini said that the service would bring transparency as it would take a lot of time to deposit money in the fund from the bank and there would be problems in keeping records. Similarly, Chief Administrator of the Fund, Tulasi Gautam, said that the fund has been updating with the recent development of technology. He said that the expansion of this service has made the savers comfortable. He said that the challenge of managing it has increased.
Currently, 268,000 employees have joined the system to avail this service, while 4,000 employees are yet to be listed in the rest of the system.
