Kathmandu. At present, the number of demat accounts has reached around 3.1 million, according to CDS and Clearing. According to CDS and Clearing Limited, the number of demat accounts has reached 3 million 95 thousand 592 so far.
A demat account is mandatory for any company to buy publicly traded shares in the primary stock market or to trade in the secondary market.
Recently, during the issuance of primary shares of Nepal Infrastructure Bank, the number of people opening demat accounts has also increased along with the increase in public interest in shares. According to CDSC, the number of demat accounts till mid-July was 1.85 million. About 1.3 million beneficiary accounts have been opened since July.
Although 3.1 million demat accounts have been opened, according to Nepse, more than 500,000 investors have participated in the secondary market and according to CDSC, about 1.6 million investors have participated in the primary market. More than 1.58 million people had applied for the IPO of women's microfinance, which was launched last time.
