Kathmandu. A total of 213 banks and financial institutions have joined the merger / acquisition process till mid-January 2077 BS after the process of merger and acquisition of banks and financial institutions was started.

Out of this, the licenses of 161 organizations have been revoked and 52 organizations have been established. Financial Access Out of the total 753 local levels, branches of commercial banks have been expanded to 749 levels by January 2012. By January 2012, branches of 746 local level commercial banks had been expanded.

There are 27 commercial banks, 19 development banks, 20 finance companies, 76 microfinance financial institutions and 1 infrastructure development bank in operation. The number of branches of banks and financial institutions has increased from 9765 in mid-July 2077 BS to 10,366 in mid-January 2077 BS, according to Nepal Rastra Bank.
