The Delta Plus variant is a variant mutated from the Delta variant found in India. It is also known as AY1. The variant was first seen in India on April 11, according to the Indian Ministry of Health.

This variant also features a beta variant found in South Africa. Due to which, scientists have expressed concern that the Delta Plus variant may still be contagious.

The Indian Ministry of Health said in a statement that the beta variant could be transmitted to humans by avoiding human immunity.

According to Shahid Jameel, a senior infectious disease specialist in India, the beta variant is known to be a variant that can weaken the human immune system.

As of June 16, the Delta Plus variant has been seen in at least 200 infected people. Of these, 36 are in the UK, 1 in Canada, 15 in Japan, 9 in Poland, 22 in Portugal, 1 in Russia, 18 in Switzerland, 1 in Turkey and 83 in the United States. It has been confirmed that this variant has been seen in 9 people in Nepal.

So far, the variant has spread to more than 80 countries around the world, according to the BBC.
