Kathmandu: The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that there is no need for the world to be scared with the new variant of covid virus Omicron. WHO senior scientist Soumya Swaminathan says the situation is very different now than when a new variant was introduced a year ago.
So far, Omicron variants have been found in 40 countries. Scientists in South Africa have discovered the variant for the first time. The WHO noted that some of the body's immune systems are weakened by Covid-19. Senior scientist Swaminathan said that the variant was very contagious. According to the BBC, 99 percent of the world's variants are currently infected with Delta.
Mike Ryan, director of the WHO, says the vaccine currently being used against Covid-19 is very effective. However, studies are currently underway to determine whether the vaccines work against the Omicron variant.
