Kathmandu. Sher Bahadur Deuba has been re-elected as the President of the Nepali Congress from the 14th General Convention. He defeated Shekhar Koirala in the second round of the election for the post of President. Meanwhile, Shekhar has received 1501 votes.
Born in Dadeldhura in 2003, Deuba has been active in Congress politics since his student days. Deuba, who was elected president from the (second) general convention of the Nepal Students' Union, has been winning all the three parliamentary elections since 2046 BS and the two Constituent Assembly elections after the second people's movement. Deuba became the Home Minister for the first time in 2052 BS.
Who is Deuba ? He became prime minister for the first time in 2052 BS after the fall of the minority government led by UML leader Manmohan Adhikari. Deuba has become the country's prime minister for the fifth time. The last time he led a coalition after the departure of KP Sharma Oli, he became prime minister.
Due to the conflict with Girija Prasad Koirala, he split the Nepali Congress in 2059 BS and formed the Nepali Congress (Democratic). After the Jana Andolan of 2062 BS, Deuba's party reunited with the Nepali Congress in 2064 BS.
After that, Deuba started increasing his influence in the party. He has been elected president of the Congress, which is called by the Koirala family, after winning twice in a row. Deuba holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a law degree from Tribhuvan University. From 1989 to 1990, he was a research fellow in political science at the London School of Economics.
