The auction will take place at the Agates Auction House in Paris. It will be open to people from all over the world.

There are a total of 14 characters in 'Merry Christmas'. If this SMS is auctioned for Rs 20 million, the value of each character will be around Rs 14.29 lakh. The world's first SMS was sent on December 3, 1992 by British programmer Neil Papworth. Neil was a developer working as a test engineer. He then sent the SMS from a computer to another partner, Richard Jarvis. Richard was the company's director at the time.

This SMS was sent to them from Orvitel 901 handset. Neil said in 2017 that he did not know that sending SMS in 1992 would be so popular. He then sent the world's first text message to his children. Vodafone said in a statement: That will be given to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. When the first message was sent in 1992, until 1995, only 0.4 percent sent messages on an average every month.
