The Ministry of Finance will not payment for Corona insurance, Rs 11 billion burden to the Insurance sector

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Finance has directed the Insurance Committee to reconsider the payment option of Corona Insurance. The Ministry of Finance has sent a letter to the committee to reconsider four months after the committee gave the option to pay the corona insurance claim.

The Insurance Committee had given four options to the government to pay the claim. There were four options: pay off the amount received by issuing Covid insurance bonds and pay off the amount received by the government insurance company for insuring civil servants.

However, the Ministry of Finance has sent a letter to the committee after four months asking them to reconsider the decision instead of choosing one. This means that the government is not in the mood to assist in the payment of Corona insurance claims, the letter clearly states, according to an insurance committee source.

Apart from these four options, 50 percent will be borne by the Government of Nepal and the remaining 50 percent will be borne by the insurance company, insurance committee, Nepal Reinsurance Company and others. The government had made an arrangement in the budget of the last fiscal year to provide 50 percent subsidy in the insurance fee of Corona Insurance. Since then, the number of Corona insurers has increased. So far, however, Corona insurers have been hit hard by the government's failure to make a firm decision.

The Insurance Committee has stopped the distribution of cash dividends to the insurance companies after the government refused to pay Rs 11 billion for the payment of Corona insurance claims. The reluctance of money in claim payment and the directives of the Insurance Committee have made the insurance sector more skeptical.
