Kathmandu. Actor Pal Shah has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison by the district court in Nawalparasi. Naik Paul Shah, who was accused of raping a girl, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison by the court.
Judge Yagya Prasad Acharya's bench also ordered Shah to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation. Although he was acquitted in the rape case, the court found him guilty of child sexual abuse.
In some ordinances of the Criminal Code issued recently, it is mentioned that if the complainant in the case of coercion changes his statement during the court process, he will be sentenced to half of the original crime. Some of the Nepal Act Amendment Ordinances issued recently have provided punishment for both false complaints and bank papers. According to the Ordinance, it is said that such complainants and those who make bank letters will be punished with half of the minimum punishment for criminals.
The Ordinance amended Section 44 of the Civil Code of Criminal Procedure and added provisions for punishment. The Ordinance makes additional provisions after Clause (a) of Section 44 and provides that there will be no hindrance of punishment to those who make false complaints and bank letters. The government issued the ordinance on March 22 after it became inactive.
"Regardless of what is written in section (a), a person who makes a false complaint or bank statement of a case related to coercion shall be halved of the punishment imposed on the offender who commits an offense related to coercion" in the ordinance regarding non-obstacle for action, it is said.
