Increasing suspicious transactions in commercial banks NRB instructions to report on timely

Kathmandu. Statistics show that the number of suspicious transactions is increasing recently. If we look at the statistics of 5 years, it seems that suspicious transactions have increased by almost 4 times. 5 years ago there used to be hundreds of such transactions, but every year it has increased to thousands.

According to Nepal Rastra Bank, 2 thousand 780 suspicious transactions have taken place till the end of June of last financial year 2078/79. It is understood that the number of suspicious transactions has also increased with the expansion of business.

In the financial year 2074/75, there were 887 suspicious transactions. In which 816 suspicious transactions were analyzed. 312 suspicious transactions were sent to law enforcement agencies for action. In the same year, 504 transactions were kept in Tameli. However, the number seems to be increasing.

In the financial year 2075/76, out of 1,351 suspicious transactions, 677 were analyzed. In which 207 have been documented and 407 have been concluded. In the financial year 2076/77, out of 1090 suspicious transactions, 790 were analyzed, 333 were recorded and 457 were concluded.

Similarly, in the financial year 2077/78, there were 1,533 suspicious transactions, while 640 were analyzed, 448 were recorded and 192 were concluded. In the last fiscal year 2078/79, there were 2,780 suspicious transactions and 1,680 transactions were analyzed. 409 transactions were documented and 659 transactions were concluded.

Transactions in which there is doubt as to whether the property has been refined or not are considered as suspicious transactions. A person has opened an account as a school teacher. He maintains that the annual income is Rs. 15 lakhs. But where did the transactions worth crores of rupees come from? The question arises. If the source of the transaction cannot be disclosed, it is considered to be a suspicious transaction.

There is a provision to disclose the source when dealing with more than 10 lakhs in any account. However, if there is a transaction of lakhs without mentioning the source, the bank reports it as a suspicious transaction. If any account is inactive for a long time. However, if suddenly large transactions start happening, that too can be questionable. A large sum of money can be deposited in a person's account from abroad. If the source of the money from abroad cannot be revealed, the bank reports it as a suspicious transaction.
