CD ratio of Commercial Banks has Declined, Now BFIs CD ratio is 86.54 Percent

Kathmandu. According to the latest data of Nepal Rastra Bank, now the investment-deposit ratio (CD ratio) of banks and financial institutions of Nepal is 86.54. This simultaneously indicates some positive and slightly unusual scenario in the banking sector of Nepal.

It is not natural for the CD ratio of banks that have been lacking investable capital for a long time to drop suddenly. There is a situation where more than 2 billion investable funds have been accumulated in the bank, which is disappointing even those who apply for small loans.

According to Nepal Rastra Bank, now the entire banking sector has maintained a CD ratio of 86.54 percent. According to the instructions of the National Bank, this ratio should not exceed 90 percent.

Looking at the financial statements of the second quarter of the current year, Standard Chartered Bank is in the most comfortable position for investment. The CD ratio of this bank is less than 80 percent. In the same period last year, the bank maintained a CD ratio of 87.92 percent, but by the end of January of the current year, it has reduced it by 9.32 percent to 78.60 percent.

Most of the commercial banks have reduced the loan-to-deposit ratio by the end of December. Banks have reduced the CD ratio from 0.58 percent to 9.32 percent during this period.

According to the latest financial statements of banks, Nabil Bank has maintained 88.91 percent CD ratio in the second quarter of the current year. Similarly, NIC Asia Bank has maintained a CD ratio of 83.44 percent, Himalayan Bank 87.12 percent, Civil 87.05 percent, Sunrise 85.82 percent, NMB 87.25 percent and Nepal Bank 82.12 percent.

Similarly, during this period Siddharth Bank 83.30 percent, National Commercial Bank 81.65 percent, Krishi Bikas Bank 87.54 percent, Citizen International 86.94 percent, Kumari 89.54 percent, Global IME 89.43 percent, Lakshmi 85. 48 percent, Nepal SBI has maintained a CD ratio of 87.35 percent and Nepal Investment Mega Bank has maintained a CD ratio of 87.24 percent.

Prime Commercial Bank, which maintained a CD ratio of 94.83 percent till the end of January last year, has reduced the CD ratio during the same period of the current year. The bank reduced the loan-to-deposit ratio by 5.94 percent to 88.89 percent during this period.

Similarly, during this period, Machhapuchhre Bank's CD ratio has been maintained at 85.18 percent. Everest Bank has maintained a CD ratio of 86.99 percent and Sanima Bank has maintained a CD ratio of 83.03 percent.
