Kathmandu. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) has started an investigation against Jharana Pun, who is trying to commit banking fraud by using the letterhead of Nepal Rastra Bank. CIB chief Uttam Subedi informed that the investigation was started after he sent a letter using the letterhead of the Central Bank to pay 70,000 British pounds.

"After receiving correspondence from the Central Bank for investigation, work is underway to extract all the details," Subedi told Capital Nepal. According to him, further details have been requested from the bank. However, details have not yet arrived. "At a glance, they are trying to cheat by using the letterhead of the Central Bank," he said, "There will be immediate investigation into the fraud." The rest will unfold after that.

A forged letter was delivered to the bank citing Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari. In the letter cut from the Deputy Governor's office, the transfer fee was deducted and the remaining amount was deposited in the Prabhu Bank account. After looking at the letter, nothing was found, no such letter was received from the Deputy Governor's office, the language used was mismatched, and the bankers decided that the letter was fake and informed the Central Bank.

It was also found that Pun had forged the name of Krishna Vivek as the Chief Deposit Officer of Sanima Bank in the said letter. According to Sanima Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nischal Raj Pandey, there is no employee named Krishna Vivek in the bank. "The Chief Deposit Officer in our bank is Saroj Guragai," CEO Pandey told Capital Nepal.

In the said letter, it is said to pay the remaining amount after deducting the transfer fee of 5 lakh 60 thousand rupees. However, when such amounts are paid, the issue of how much amount should be paid is usually not mentioned.

Similarly, such a letter is not written by the governor, deputy governor or executive director of Rashtra Bank. When writing to banks, the assistant director always writes the letter. Interestingly, the letter does not even mention which Rashtra Bank employee has officially corresponded.

However, the seal of Deputy Governor's office has been affixed where Krishna Vivek signed. This letter has also exposed whether the letterhead of Rashtra Bank is official or not or how such official letterhead is misused.
