Kathmandu. The number of bank deposit accounts has reached 51 million 177 thousand 923. It has been found that there are almost double the number of bank accounts in Nepal. The central bank has announced that the number of bank deposit accounts has reached 51.11 lakh 77 thousand 923 by the end of June 2080 while publishing the detailed booklet on the arrangements made by Nepal Rastra Bank for the protection of financial customers.
According to the National Census 2078, the total population of Nepal is currently 29.1 million 64 thousand 578. Compared to the population, the number of deposit accounts opened in banks is 1.75 times more. Similarly, during the same period, 1.845 thousand 213 loan accounts were opened in banks and financial institutions, the Central Bank also informed.
According to the bank, 85.93 percent of these deposit accounts and about 81.95 percent of loan accounts are in commercial banks. Similarly, by the end of June 2080, there are a total of 1 crore 89 lakh 41 thousand 793 wallet users and 2 crore 13 lakh 63 thousand 989 mobile banking users, according to the Central Bank.
By the end of June 2080, the number of commercial banks is 20, while the number of development banks is 17, the number of finance companies is 17 and the number of microfinance financial institutions is 57. The central bank has also mentioned in its details that services are being provided across the country through a total of 11,589 financial service centers from these banks and financial institutions.
