Discussions have started at the National Bank on reopening bancassurance from monetary policy this year.

Spokesperson of Nepal Rastra Bank Gunakar Bhatta said that the banks have suggested to open bancassurance and it is a regular function of the central bank to discuss the suggestions received. Commercial and development banks have been lobbying hard to open bancassurance this year, and new insurance companies have suggested to the central bank. Recently, the Insurance Committee has lobbied unofficially to open bancassurance, sources said.

The central bank had stopped bancassurance after the problem of verifying the income of the insured while insuring through the bank and the complaint of forcibly insuring the debtor.
