Kathmandu. The corona virus epidemic has caused a loss of Rs 198.18 billion to the Nepalese economy. A study by the National Planning Commission on the impact of the epidemic showed preliminary estimates. The study report conducted by the commission from April to July has shown that the manufacturing industry has been most affected and the service industries have been equally affected.

This includes the second sector of the economy (construction, industry and electricity, gas and water). The Commission estimates the extent of the damage caused by the epidemic to the gross domestic product (GDP).

Covid has more impact on non-agricultural sector than agricultural sector. While non-agriculture sector declined by Rs. 155.97 billion, value added of agriculture sector was affected by Rs. 9.64 billion. A study conducted from April to July showed that the product value of pre-epidemic GDP fell from Rs 3.94 trillion to Rs 3.7 trillion by July.

The Corona epidemic has caused a total loss of Rs 19 billion to the agricultural sector. A study conducted in the field of vegetables, milk, flowers, poultry, meat, eggs and fish has shown that it has affected 100 percent from April to July.

The biggest loss due to lockdown has been in chicken meat. The study showed that the highest loss of Rs 6.75 billion was due to lack of market and other problems. Similarly, Rs 270 million was lost in milk, Rs 2.39 billion in vegetables and Rs 1.35 billion in eggs.

The damage to tea, other meats, poultry grains and raw materials, poultry medicine, poultry vaccines and fish amounted to Rs 18.90 billion.

The biggest impact has been seen in the industrial sector in April. A total of seven industries were registered before the ban was imposed on April 25. After that, no industry has been registered in the month of Baisakh and only three industries have been registered in May.
