Deposits in banks and financial institutions increased by 5 percent of the current fiscal year

Kathmandu, Deposits in banks and financial institutions increased by 5 percent in the first four months of the current fiscal year. The latest report released by Nepal Rastra Bank on the current economic and financial situation of the country has shown this.

Such deposits had increased by 3.1 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year. On a year-on-year basis, deposits with banks and financial institutions increased by 20.8 percent in mid-November 2012/13. The share of current, savings and time deposits in the total deposits of banks and financial institutions during the same period was 7.9 percent, 33.4 percent and 50.1 percent respectively. In the previous year, such share was 7.7 percent, 32.5 percent and 48.7 percent respectively.

Institutional deposits accounted for 42.7 percent of the total deposits of banks and financial institutions in mid-November 2012/13. The share of such deposits was 44.7 percent in mid-November 2012/13.

Total domestic debt increased by 4.4 percent in the first four months of the current fiscal year. Such loans had increased by 2.5 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year. On a year-on-year basis, such loans increased by 15.7 percent in mid-November 2012/13.
