Kathmandu. The number of individuals and companies blacklisted for non-payment of bank loans has skyrocketed in recent times. This is seen in the list published by the Credit Information Center.

Many individuals and entities have been included in this list because those who have taken loans from banks for various business purposes have not been able to repay the loans on time. No bank or financial institution will disburse loans to the persons included in the blacklist issued by the Center until their loans are recovered.

A total of 15,580 non-performing borrowers have been blacklisted in the list of credit information centers. In the first month of the current fiscal year, 397 people were included in the list. Similarly, 277 people have been added to the list in August and 394 in September.

Similarly, 322 debtors were blacklisted in November and 403 in November. Since then, the number of those on the blacklist has risen sharply. While 454 debtors were added to the blacklist in December, 615 have been added in January. Similarly, 622 debtors have been blacklisted in Phagun and 450 have been blacklisted so far in April. The number of people added to this list is 123 in just five days of this week.

The blacklist of Hetauda Leather Industry Company has been included in the list of Credit Information Centers on March 6, 2008 and it is still the same. The company was owned by Bansbari Leather and Shoes Company. Later, when Girija Prasad Koirala was the Prime Minister, the company was sold for a penny.
