Parliament reconstituted and Deuba appointed Prime Minister

Kathmandu. A total of 146 lawmakers from the opposition alliance have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of parliament and the appointment of Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister.

Rejecting the claim made by UML parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli along with Deuba for the post of prime minister, President Vidyadevi Bhandari dissolved the parliament at midnight on Friday on the recommendation of the government and announced mid-term elections on November 13 and 14. A total of 146 lawmakers from the opposition coalition filed a writ petition on Monday calling the dissolution unconstitutional.

They claim that it is unconstitutional for the President not to appoint Deuba as the Prime Minister. He said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who had requested for the formation of an alternative government as he could not show a majority in the parliament, did not have the right to run for prime minister again.
