Women directors in Top 15 banks in Nepal

Kathmandu. Along with employees in banks and financial institutions, the participation of women in the board of directors is also increasing. With the departure of women working in banks, the practice of appointing them as directors is increasing. Nowadays, when most commercial banks increase the practice of appointing women as directors with special priority, it also shows a kind of beauty in the board of directors. Some women directors are becoming directors by becoming shareholders, while some women are getting the opportunity to become independent directors based on their experience and knowledge.

The constitution of Nepal itself has stipulated that 33 percent participation of women in every field should be done. The Companies Act also stipulates that if there are women shareholders in public companies, women should also participate in the board of directors. However, some banks still do not have female directors. Some banks have up to two women directors.

Laxmi Sunrise Bank: In Lakshmi Sunrise Bank, there are two female directors out of six directors. Swati Rungta and Vidya Basnyat are working as directors. Sharda Sharma was the director of Sunrise Bank before the merger of Sunrise Bank with Lakshmi Bank. However, now she has retired from the directorship. In Lakshmi Sunrise Bank, Vidya Basnyat is working as an independent director while Rungata is working as a director since 2012. Rungata is also working as a managing partner in a global equity fund and she has good experience in the financial sector.

Machhapuchhre Bank: Bandana Karki is the director of this bank, which has a board of directors of seven people. He is a public director. Karki has completed her Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Sikkim Manipal University. He has experience of working in various organizations in various sectors and also has excellent administrative skills. She has also worked as procurement manager of Gandaki Hydropower Development Company and Himshree Foods Pvt Ltd.

Nabil Bank: Asha Rana Adhikari is working as a woman director in Nabil Bank. He is an independent director. She has more than three decades of experience in the banking sector and has previously worked in various organizations. She has also worked as Deputy CEO of the then Sunrise Bank. She has an MBA from Tribhuvan University and has worked in the banking sector for three and a half decades.

NIC Asia: There is one female director of NIC Asia Bank among the seven directors. Vijaya Swar is working as a woman manager in that bank. Having worked in various positions in the Agricultural Development Bank, she has more than four decades of experience in the banking sector. He has previously worked as a director of Diprox microfinance financial institution, as a director of a herb production and processing company and as a chairman of a fund management company.

She holds a master's degree in development management from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila, Philippines. Currently, he is working as a coordinator of the Anti-Money Laundering Committee and a member of the Employee Service Facility Committee at NIC Asia Bank.

NMB Bank: NMB Bank has appointed Bandana Pathak as an independent director of the bank. She was working as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NCC Bank at that time and left the bank after the merger with NCC Kumari Bank. After he left his job, NMB Bank appointed him as an independent director. Pathak, who holds an MA in Economics from Tribhuvan University, has three decades of experience working in the banking sector.

Everest Bank: Urmila Shrestha is working as a public director in Everest Bank. She is the daughter of Chairman BK Bahadur Shrestha. He has shares in the bank. She has a master's degree in economics from Tribhuvan University and has also worked as the president of Mahila Sahayatra Laguvitta.

Nepal Investment Mega Bank: Manju Basnet is working as an independent director of this bank. Before the merger with Nepal Investment Bank, Sabina Devi Kafle was working in Mega Bank.

Nepal SBI Bank: Apsara Upreti is working as director of Nepal SBI Bank. He is also a chartered accountant. He has about a decade of experience in the banking sector and his role is important in the bank. She has completed her Masters in Business Studies from Tribhuvan University.

Sanima Bank: Gayatri Thapa is working as a woman director of Sanima Bank. She was appointed as the director of the bank in May 2076. Prime Commercial Bank: Dr. as the female director of Prime Commercial Bank. Taradevi is working as a painter. She was appointed as the director of the bank in December last year. National Commercial Bank: Romila Dhakal Upreti is working as the director of the government-owned National Commercial Bank. He has a master's degree in management and has a long experience of working in the banking sector. He has previously worked in Everest Bank for 20 years.
