Kathmandu. The government has made arrangements through the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83 to allow tourists entering Nepal by air or land to bring foreign currency or traveler's checks equivalent to five thousand US dollars that can be exchanged in Nepal. It has been mentioned that if they bring more than that, they can declare it at the customs point and bring it. With this arrangement, it will now be easier for tourists coming by land, especially Indian tourists. Earlier, there was a provision that Indian citizens could not bring more than 25 thousand rupees.
As mentioned in the budget, now Indian tourists will be allowed to bring 5 thousand US dollars (four lakh 29 thousand five hundred rupees). If they have to bring more than that amount, they have to declare it and bring it.
NEW Arrangements of Nepal Rastra Bank
Although the government has removed the limit of 25 thousand rupees through the budget, the National Bank has a separate guideline. According to the guidelines of the National Bank, Indian citizens are not allowed to bring more than 25 thousand rupees in cash, and if they have to bring it, they have to declare it and bring it.
With the government removing this limit through the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83, the NRB will now change the guidelines to guidelines, said Dr. Bhagwat Acharya, Assistant Information Officer of the NRB. According to him, this provision will be addressed in the upcoming monetary policy.
As per the NRB’s directive, Nepal has banned notes of 500 and 1000 rupees. Only notes of 100 or less have been allowed. In this regard, according to the new arrangement made by the government, if an Indian citizen has to bring 5,000 US dollars, that is, 450,000 in cash, he will have to hire a porter.
In this context, some tourism entrepreneurs argue that the ban on 500 and 1000 rupees, which is more important than the limit of 25,000, should be clarified.
