Kathmandu. There are more than 600 branch offices of banks in Kathmandu alone. According to the statistics of the Nepal Rastra Bank, there are 1,319 branches of commercial banks, 277 branches of development banks and 94 branches of finance companies in the six metropolitan cities. According to the latest statistics of Nepal Rastra Bank, 5,104 branches of commercial banks, 1,134 branches of development banks and 291 branches of finance companies are in operation.

There are 6 metropolitan cities including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Pokhara, Bharatpur, Biratnagar and Birgunj. Banks and financial institutions have also expanded most of their branch offices in those metropolitan cities only. Since electronic payment (digital) transactions are increasing and there are a significant number of branches, the National Bank has made arrangements in the first quarterly review of the monetary policy for the current fiscal year 2082/83 to allow banks and financial institutions to adjust and integrate their branches in the metropolitan cities themselves.

Commerical Bank branches in the metropolis cities 

The Nepal Rastra Bank has data that there are 1,690 branch offices of banks and financial institutions in 6 metropolitan cities. Of these, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has the largest number of branch offices, with 825, Pokhara has 313, Lalitpur has 216, Bharatpur has 146, Biratnagar has 103, and Birgunj has 87.

According to the National Bank's data, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has the largest number of branch offices, with 670 of commercial banks, 113 of development banks, and 42 of finance companies, out of a total of 825.

Nepal Rastra Bank's data shows that Pokhara Metropolitan City has a total of 220 of commercial banks, 78 of development banks, and 15 of finance companies, out of a total of 314 branch offices.

Lalitpur Metropolitan City has a total of 216 branch offices, including 179 of commercial banks, 22 of development banks, and 15 of finance companies.

Similarly, there are a total of 146 branch offices in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, including 98 of commercial banks, 35 of development banks, and 13 of finance companies.

103 branch offices in Biratnagar Metropolitan City, including 84 of commercial banks, 16 of development banks, and 3 of finance companies. Total of 87 branch offices in Birgunj, including 68 of commercial banks, 13 of development banks, and 6 of finance companies, according to the National Bank.
