Kathmandu. Durga Prasad Timsina (Deepak Jaisi) of Ilam, who has been lodged in an Indian jail for 40 years without a hearing, has been released from jail on Saturday.
Durga Prasad was released after her brother Prakash Chandra Timsina signed an agreement at the Dumdum Central Jail in Kolkata. The court had asked to release Durga Prasad's close relative Prakash Chandra citing his mental health reasons. The court ruled that he had served 41 years in prison, adding that there was no justification for justice.
According to Prakash, Deepak's father died when he was seven years old. In the accident, one of the mother's hands had to be cut off and thrown away. When the responsibility of supporting the family came to him, he went to Mangalbare to sell mustard.
"He went to Darjeeling to see if he could get a job with a little money," he said, adding that he had been arrested and imprisoned there.
According to Prakash, his documents were found burnt in a fire in the jail a few years ago. The papers were lost as there were no people to follow up on the issue.
So far, Deepak himself has not revealed what happened.
