Kathmandu. Nabil Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gyanendra Dhungana has resigned from his post. According to Nabil Bank, he is in the race for the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. Gyanendra, who resigned from Nabil, has also become a strong contender for the governorship. Some believe that he resigned from the CEO position because the government does not appoint a person working in any company as the governor.
After Gyanendra's resignation, discussions have started on the bank board about who will be the CEO of Nabil. It is understood that Sujit Shakya, who has been working as the senior DCEO for a long time, will be given the responsibility of CEO. It is understood that one of Gyawali and Shakya, who were recently promoted to senior DCEO, will be appointed as the CEO of Nabil.
The race for a new governor has intensified after the Cabinet meeting formed a recommendation committee led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister to select the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. Dhungana has stepped into the fray to become the governor by resigning.
Currently, the two major parties, Nepali Congress and UML, are in a ruling coalition and although it is said that it has not been decided which party will get the governor's post among these two parties, Dhungana is said to be the preferred candidate from the Congress. Dhungana, who has worked at Nepal Rastra Bank for a decade, has experience in leading the bank for a long time and has also served as the president of the Nepal Bankers Association.
