A statement issued by the country's interim prime minister said Haiti's president, Jovanel Moiz, had been killed in an attack on his private residence.
The president's residence in Port-au-Prince was attacked by unidentified gunmen at around 1 a.m. local time, Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph said.
The first woman was injured in the attack. Jovanel Moiz has been in power since February 2017. Moiz's tenure was not easy amid allegations of corruption and he was facing a wave of violent anti-government protests.
