More than 10.35 billion capital gains tax was collected from the stock market

Kathmandu. In the financial year 078/79, the government spent Rs. 10 billion 35 million 33 million 53 thousand capital gains tax has been collected. Investors in the secondary market of securities have paid the profit tax to the government.

CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC), which has been working on securities transactions, has informed that the government has collected the capital gains tax in the financial year 078/79. In the last fiscal year, the secondary market of securities had set a historical record. On the 2nd of August, NEPSE established a historical point and on the same day, the highest amount of securities was bought and sold.The government has been collecting up to 10 percent capital gains tax from investors in the securities secondary market. 10 percent from institutional investors and a maximum of 7.5 percent from individual investors have been collecting capital gains tax. Since the last financial year, two types of capital gains tax have been provided for individual investors in the securities market.

By dividing investors who hold shares for more than one year as long-term investors and investors who hold shares for less than one year as short-term investors, the government has arranged a capital gains tax of 7.5 percent for alkaline and 5 percent for long-term investors. Securities investors have to pay capital gains tax on the basis of weighted average cost.
