Kathmandu. Until a few years ago, the movement of young women in the capital was stopped a week before the Phagupurnima (Holi) festival. A young woman who had to leave for a special job had to be unharmed when returning home. In the morning of February Shukla Ashtami, after burying a rag in the palace area of Hanumandho, it became a tradition to hit the girl with a lola filled with water. This distortion is gradually ending. Until a few years ago, buckets of water were poured on those who went out on Phagupurnima. Abir and other colors were dyed.
This time, no one was seen to have done anything wrong in the name of Phagupurnima culture against the wishes of others. People are enjoying themselves. Played fagu with family and neighbors. Criticized. They exchanged happiness. Increase mutual harmony. The Phagupurnima (Holi) festival, which is celebrated on the day of the full moon of February, seems to be celebrated relatively peacefully in the hilly and Himalayan districts including the capital.
Until a few years ago, on Phagupurnima (Holi), people used to throw colored water bottles against their wishes. Such work has been stopped since a few years ago. This year, children are often seen playing fagu on the streets. Children also do not paint and throw water bottles at people walking on the streets like in the past. The crowd of people playing Holi after reserving a car is negligible. Young Ramchandra Shrestha, who is celebrating Fagu festival at Putlisadak Chowk, tells people who ride and walk on the road to do nothing.
On the day of February Shukla Ashtami, Fagu started after worshiping a tree decorated with colorful flags in front of the Gaddi meeting in Basantpur. Tonight in Tundikhel, the monster named 'Gurumapa' was fed 10 bags of rice and one piece of meat from Itumbahal to the river called 'Jadhu' inside the military hospital.
In the Treta Yuga, Daitya King Hiranyakashyapu, with the intention of killing his son Prahlad, a devotee of Vishnu, made his sister Holika, who had received a boon from Brahma to be invulnerable to fire, enter the burning fire with Prahlad. It is believed that the tradition of playing Holi on 9th February has been going on since then, on the occasion of the killing of Holika, who has become a symbol of the sinful tendency to abuse power.
Similarly, during the Dwapara Yuga, the demon Putana sent by Kansha to kill Lord Krishna was unsuccessfully killed when she tried to suck his poisoned breast. Prof. Dr. Devmani Bhattarai, a theologian mentioned in the scriptures and a member of the Nepal Panchang Jury Committee, says that the tradition of celebrating the Jalai Phagu festival is still there.
