Kathmandu. Most of the hydropower companies are in losses. Due to decrease in electricity production, increase in interest rate, etc., hydropower companies have started making losses. The report of the current financial year 2079/80 published by the operating hydropower companies has also shown this. Around two dozen companies have incurred losses during the review period. Apart from that, the profits of many hydropower companies have declined.
Out of the operating companies, two dozen are seen in losses. By the end of March of the current year, 22 hydropower companies have suffered losses. During the period under review, the state-owned Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Company has incurred the most losses. According to the data, the company operating the 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project has lost 2.33 billion rupees. In the same period last year, the loss of the company was 1.65 billion 6 lakh rupees.
Similarly, Shivshree Hydropower is at the second number for incurring more losses. The said company has a loss of 237.933 thousand rupees. Last year, the company had a loss of 289 million 49 thousand rupees. According to that, it seems that the loss amount of the company has decreased somewhat. Balefi Hydropower is in third place. The earthquake caused a loss of 2372 million 20 thousand rupees. In the same period last year, the company had a loss of only 6 lakh 6 thousand rupees. However, this year, the company's losses seem to have increased rapidly.
