The number of corona insurers in Nepal has also exceeded 7.5 million. So far, 746,850 people have insured the Corona. During that period, 80,303 insurance policies have been sold. An insurance fee of Rs 421.03 million has been collected from those insurance policies.
In recent days, insurance claims in insurance companies have skyrocketed. As of last Friday, 352 claims have been lodged. The claims are worth a total of Rs 33.7 million. Of them, 77 have already received payment. Out of which, Rs 69 lakh has been paid to 69 people and Rs 50,000 has been paid to eight people. Of the claims received, 276 are yet to be paid. Of this, Rs 25.2 million is left for claims of 252 per capita insured and Rs 1.2 million for 24 thousand per capita insured. As per the instructions of the Insurance Committee, the claim should be paid within a year at most. But in the last one year, the number of unpaid claims has increased.
According to the Corona Insurance Criteria, the company must pay the claim within seven days of the submission of proof of infection with Covid-19. In case of death of the insured without payment of the claim, payment has to be made to the desired person or legal claimant.
The sale of insurance policies has been started from April 22 for the risk protection of Covid-19. Twenty non-life insurance companies are selling the policy. Since the current fiscal year, the government has provided free corona insurance to all civil servants. At present, there are around 1.5 million government employees including civil servants, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and teachers. The government has made arrangements to provide free insurance of Rs one lakh to these employees.
